If you are the CMO (VP Marketing, Marketing Manager or Marketing Director) of the Nokia’s and Microsofts of this world, you might want to check out Google Trends. While the results are not likely to be academic, they do provide you with a trend of searches.

My interesting search trendspotting
Being a Dane, I naturally compared the search volume the words "Norway", "Sweden" and "Denmark". Here is the result for the calender year 2006:

As you can see there are clearly most searches for "Sweden". But you will also notice a dramatic increase in searches for "Denmark" in February 2006. The reason, as Google Trends will let you know, is that Denmark received an enormous amount of presscoverage at that time. Moreover, you will notice that the search volume for "Sweden" enjoyed a heavy increase in June 2006. Reason? They managed to draw England in a football match !
